Hi Adopter,
Imagine you run an online fragrance store (as I used to ;).
Every week, you check competitor prices, products, and offers. You spot changes, but by next week you’re relying on memory.
This issue shows how to build a private competitor monitor with Codex. It saves public observations, compares each week, and gives ChatGPT or Codex evidence to help you decide what deserves a response.
By the end, you’ll have a prompt package that builds a monitor for your own stores. You don’t need to edit a template. Codex will ask for your store URL, one to three competitors, your market, and the question you want answered each week.
Let’s walk through a simple fictional example first.
A price change is not a decision
Our fictional store is Northline Parfum. One of its competitors, Scent Studio, has sold the same bottle for $120 across several weekly checks. This Monday, the monitor records it at $108.
That tells you the price moved by 10%.
The product page also says the bottle is 32.5% off because it compares $108 with a higher reference price. That is the promotion the customer sees. It is not the same as the competitor’s weekly price change.
Without history, you see a big discount and might rush to match it. With history, you see what changed and ask a better question: does a 10% move matter enough to change our offer?
The answer depends on your costs, product fit, customers, and goals. The monitor doesn’t decide for you. It gives you clean evidence before you decide.
